The Green Party is getting headlines by complaining about the markup that supermarkets make on fresh produce. They suggest that the Government should impose a code of conduct to control prices.
Haven't they heard of competition?
People have a chose where they buy their produce. Instead of a supermarket, they can go to a green-grocer or shop at the Farmer's Market. Or best of all, grow their own.

I agree with both you and the Green Party!! I'm a big fan of the farmers' market but I also recognise not all people have the luxury of being able to shop on a Saturday morning. Also, the government needs to take some responsibility for the growing obesity problem, particularly the relationship between low-incomes and eating habits.
ReplyDeleteI think both being Green and having a healthy weight are a matter of personal responsibility. People do not get obese unless they eat too much. Some in the Green Party are "water-melons": green on the outside and red on the inside.
ReplyDeleteAPD, I disagree with you about this but I think that your blog is one of the best in Dunedin.
